I recently imported a 12,000-record contact database from
an old dBase application into Exchange Server5.5/Outlook2000
public contact folder. I finally figured out how to import
and use the custom fields and designed and assigned a
custom form, but "Find" and "Advanced Find" functions are
MUCH TOO SLOW!

They take one minute and forty seconds to perform a
search. I tried various settings such as unchecking
the "search all text" box in the regular "Find" window pane
and choosing different fields to search under the "Advanced
Find" window, but each time it takes approximately one
minute and forty seconds to search.

This is unacceptably slow for my requirements. Is there a
way to "index" records in the Exchange database? Is there
any way to make these searches go faster? Or is my contact
database just too large? Do I have to break it up into
several smaller folders? Seems to me that Exchange is a
pretty weak corporate contact management system if a 12,000-
record database clogs it up... My old dBase-based 16-bit
flat-file application returned searches in a few seconds.

Thanks for the help!

-- Aaron Cutchin
-- LAN Administrator, BJG
