I have 3 branch offices with ip phones, one of my branch offices
has a very high 1140 failure rate. (nearly one a week lately)
The screens go blank and the back of the phone feels warm.
Could this be a poe issue ?
How much power should an IP phone draw ?
As always , any assistance is appreciated.

Thank you .... that certainly explains it.

We got the power supply boards from Avaya for $6 or so each and replaced them ourselves. Those that don't know how to take a phone apart and handle electronics properly should not attempt.

We had over 500 1140 sets repaired by Avaya. The have a program for this, inquire through your dealer.

It's a phone system, NOT a clock!

Good job paying $5k extra to Avaya ... we opted the non-Avaya route because then you can go at your own pace and don't have to deal with anyone else. Might have been worth it to you, we only had 300 phones to do. We figured already pay someone to escort them at our site, so why not just do it ourselves. Not that hard to swap a board, power up and test.

$$$$ is just a drop in the bucket, but we also have initiatives for cost savings even if it is a few grand.

Just another method for those that have the skillset to attempt.
I am an electronics engineer and can do component level repair just like the guy on the bluemunkey site I posted. We went with a small team and got it completed in just a couple half days.

We had a problem with the lower buttons going out and also with the displays fading and you could not read them anymore. I contacted Avaya and they replaced all 580 of our phones no charged and we shipped all of the old ones back to them at their expense. Our phones were from 8/2008.
