quick question
can i use the USB on the 1140e (or any bcm compatible IP phone)
to change or upgrade the firmware
instead of setting up a TFTP server
i have something on my network blocking tftp requests
and until i find out what is, i'd like to upgrade one of my customers phones
i sort of remember reading something along the lines that its was one of the reasons they put the USB port on the phones

No, the USB is for keyboard or headset.

As long as your BCM has the latest patches you do not need to install any other firmware created after the latest patches which contain the firmware's, any newer firmware's are only for SIP or Successions.
If you just installed a new patch onto the BCM then reboot the phone/s or force the firmware download from Element Managers IP sets in Resources/IP Terminal Details.

You could speak with you local vendor on uploading other firmware's to the BCM if for some reason you need it.

right, usb keyboard or headset,
now i remember
thanks

a few i am working with did upgrade to the latest Unistim
but i had a few i have to switch from SIP to Unistim

thats where i hit the snag of something blocking the tftp requests on my network
(or maybe i have a stealth TFTP server listening somewhere thats responding first)

thought i had a quick easy way out with the USB idea

i'll just toss a simple network together to get past this issue.
thanks
