Hello;
I have a bcm 50 3.0, just installed, put in a 1140e with a KEM for reception which is working like a charm, however there is no backlight. I cannot find any troubleshooting info in the docks, anyone have any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Are you using PoE??

According to Exp Module Getting Started Guide -- "The backlight can only function when local 48v power supply is present. On the other hand, either local 48v power supply or Power over Ethernet will power all of the module's other functionality."

Yes,using PoE. I read that too, that's why they should be functioning.

I am confused.

If you are using PoE, then the backlight will NOT work on the KEM. Everything BUT the backlight will work with PoE.

You must use the power brick to get the backlight to function.

You need to have a local power supply connected to the IP Phone 1140E for the backlight on the Expansion Module to work.

According to "the docs" the KEM gets it's power from wherever the phone is getting power (PoE or local power source)?? The backlight works on the main phone but not on the expansion. Do I need to order a power supply for this phone? Stupid Nortel!!

According to the docs, you will need external power brick for backlighting.

"The backlight can only function when local 48v power supply is present."

PoE means NO backlighting for the KEM.

Yes, you will need to buy an external power brick if you want to have the backlight on the KEM.

Thanks for your help robl3000. I did not see that quote anywhere.

Wally:

If you have the "Expansion Module for the IP Phone 1100 Series Getting Started" tri-fold card that was included in the box with the KEM, you can find the information under the "Adjusting The Display" section, near the bottom of the card.

The information seems a little confusing and contradictory in places, but in this section it states that you will need a power brick to make the backlight function.

I read that tri-fold sheet and that's where I saw that it gets it's power from the main unit, but I see the quote from the Nortel website. Thanks to both of you!!

"Optional backlighting requires use of 90-260 VAC, 50-60 Hz in, 48 VDC 500mA power supply and regional power cord which is common to the IP Phone (orderable separately
