I am retiring a BCM 400 replacing it with IP Office 500 next week. I have twenty 1120e IP sets to migrate from their present Unistem software to SIP.

In this case will I be able to download it with latest and greatest SIP or will I have to first install v2 then v3 then v4?

When you reprogram the phones to point to the IP Office 500V2, assuming the 500V2 has the correct level of software, the SIP firmware will automatically download to the phones from the 500V2. Hint, leave the Voice VLAN field in the phones blank.

I have accomplished that much. I am piqued on your vlan comment. I would like to have these phones on a separate voice vlan. I understand the way the dhcp process is supposed to work for these phones when connected to pcs is 1) they discover dhcp on the data vlan 2) an option should be passable by dhcp giving the voice vlan tag identifier 3) the phone reboots itself and dhcp discovers on the voice vlan and receives it voice vlan ip.

I used option 66 to pass the IP Office as the tftp server to download it with the SIP software and come up with an address on the data vlan.

What option(s) will work to set the voice vlan?

You can use DHCP option 191 to push out a VLAN identifier. The syntax would be VLAN-A:BBB. BBB would be the voice VLAN number, make sure to end the string with a period.

Thank you for both answers. I did need to reset the 1120es to factory default to successfully implement the SIP download successfully using dhcp option 66 with the IPO as tftp server.

When I did this to about 30 1120e phones I had to provided a static address for each phone because the documentation stated that DHCP was not supported for the Nortel phones being converted from Unistem H.323 to SIP.
