11.1 on Hyper-V upgrade using ISO? 3

Does anyone know what the process is for upgrading a Hyper-V based server edition on R11.0.4/5? All the instructions refer to either an external USB key or in the case VMware, a special "Upgrade" VMDK disk, but nothing for Hyper-V?

Has anyone tried it, or does it require a complete reinstall and then restoring afterwards (like when R11.1 was first released?)

Why no love for Hyper-V?

There is no supported upgrade for Hyper-V and I share your love of Hyper-V and disappointment that they are so fixated on VMWare. Although it isn't supported Hyper-V will run just fine with the 11.1 SP1 and above versions.

I have many clients using Hyper-V for VM Pro linux and have had no issues after the service pack was released for 11.1. The initial version had to be restarted quite often. I love Hyper-V because I can save images, run windows backup, and have regular full backups with my normal server software as well as cloud backups with Acronis.

My procedure is to install the new Hyper-V linux, get it setup but have it on a vlan so it isn't active. Then run a backup on the old Hyper-V instance, use WINSCP to copy the backup to windows server, then shut down the old instance. Turn on the new instance / remove vlan and then restore the backup to the new instance and it is up and running.

The backup won't bring over the vm to email server settings, so that has to be put in after the backup is restored. If anything goes wrong you still have your old Hyper-V instance and it's a snap to revert.

Hyper-V for 11.1 will be coming with R11.1 FP1, current target date of 09/02/21, or that is what Avaya said to us next week.

We tried installing the earlier versions on R11.1 using the ISO, but had lots of issues, so decided to leave it until Avaya release aproper version so it is supported. They won't support an install on HV done with the ISO.

There seems is/was a Hyper-V downlaod for R11.1SP2, but it has now been taken down by Avaya,and doesn't work when we tried it (and others).

Watch out for ABE-11.1.1000-207-upgradedisk.vhd (Hyper-V)
Similar to ABE-11.1.1000-207-upgradedisk.vmdk (VMware)

Both are not available now, but will be in a few days.

Those two upgradedisks have been released. I did download them. One day later they are removed from support site along with the rest of FP1.
If you need then, i.e. for lab purpose, I could share a link.

Has anyone seen any updates on a supported release of 11.1 Hyper-V, I have not seen any information on it unless I've missed it. I've tested with the releases that were pulled from Avaya and didn't have much luck with them.

According to Avaya Support you have to upgrade your 11.0 to SP4 via ISO, prior to upgrade, but yes there is a new Hyper-VHD upgradedisk image to get you to 11.1 FP1 released on 16 Mar.

Avaya should soon update the documentation to include new FP1 and 11.0.4.5 and of course Hyper-V.

To prepare:
Upgrade to 11.0.4.5 (or 11.0.4.4)
shutdown via platform view (7071)

For the upgrade, the process is much the same as with VMware, except:
* You need the 8GB ABE-11.1.1000-209-upgradedisk.vhd instead of the 5GB ABE-11.1.1000-209-upgradedisk.vmdk
* No need to copy/inflate to 200GB
* Change the IDE Controller Location of the existing disk from 0 to 1
* Add the upgradedisk. It will go to Location 0
* Start, wait until the system halts after upgrade is done.
* Remove the upgradedisk
* Put the normal disk back to position 0
* Start the upgraded server
* Wait 15 minutes after the system has started and reboot again via platform view (7071)

Done.

We just finished with IPO SE HYPER-V upgrade from R11.0.4.5 to 11.1 FP1 following above steps carefully.
However now we get "Invalid License file" error and all phones dropped as unlicensed. We have done the upgrade on the exact same server environment as licensed.
Did i missed something relevant to licenses conversion?
We just return to R11.0 using a valid backup until resolve this issue.
Any thoughts?

Never happened to me.
As 11.0 and 11.1 is the same license, it should just work.
But instead of going back to an old snapshot, did you try to just go to PLDS and recreate the license? Try with that?

Another wild guess - some systems which are upgraded from earlier release still have old settings in security. It could help to make a note of any special settings there and then reset security. It will remove old things like operator and manager and update to the same level as with a fresh installation. But it will also create a new identity certificate. Check that first, you may have to create it again, but with correct values (i.e. SIP-Domain)
