i have a 10 GB maxtor hard drive and every time i try to reformat the drive it says i only have 8.4GB. there must be an easy way to fix this. what is the best program to use to format my harddrive. and how can i get the FULL amount of space available from my harddrive?

You've come up against the 8.4GB limit of your system BIOS. Nothing to do but either get an updated file from the maker of the computer or motherboard and flash the BIOS or use a drive overlay software from the maker of the hard drive. The overlay 'lies' to the BIOS about what the drive is and will allow the full size. It has to be installed before the Operating System [or anything else] is.
