Hi Guys,

I am about to enroll with Primavera (Course 102 – Project Management in P6 Client-Server) to try to earn my Basic Primavera P5/P6 Certification.

This is a three day course. I will be Certified P5/P6 Basic user but my goal is to become an Advanced User. You can not become advance Certified unless you get basic cert. out of the way 1st.

Reasons for this is to make my resume a bit more interesting.

Why, I currently only have three years of construction management exp. on residential construction projects (non-commercial construction).

Plus, I just finished my construction management program at UCLA this past spring (2008).

I would like for you guys to offer your opinions whether this Adv. Certi. From Primavera is worth the money in helping someone like myself get a job in this hard economic times.

A few thoughts, and you are welcome to contact me directly to discuss. I am a Primavera Instructor for a Primavera Solution Provider in Southern California. The first thing you should know is that there are only (2) PSP's in California certified to teach the certified P5/6 Basic course. Therefore, be careful who you receive training from. Independent agencies often market Primavera Training using a book created by Paul E. Harris. While Mr. Harris's book is excellent, it does not constitute a certified Primavera course. Certified classes are delivered using Primavera training manuals by instructors certified by Primavera.

Secondly, attending training will look good on your resume but your field experience in scheduling will be far more important. We have hired consultants with no Primavera experience and a plethora of scheduling experience. Software knowledge is secondary to CM experience in scheduling.

Since most specs are written to include Primavera and it is used on most all projects over 20mil, becoming familiar with the S/W will make you more marketable.

Finally, completing the Basic and Advanced course will get you a certificate but will not make you a certified Primavera scheduler. The only way to become a certified Traiiner/Consultant is to work for a PSP or self-certify through Primavera which costs between 10-15k.

We offer significant discounts to "independents" attending training on their own dollar. As I said, feel free to contact me directly. I hope the above helped; anapurano@yahoo.com.

Thank You So much for your help. This is the name of the company doing the training: DRMcNatty and Associates Inc, I got their info. from Primavera when i call them. They seem really nice to talk to and have a great little program close to my house. I didn't know the self-cert. cost that much 10-15K...i was under the impression that, I just provided them with my PMI PMP certification plus i would take the basic primavera test past that and after take the Adv. P. Test. Passing both Test would Certified me as a Primavera Certified User...It better because the classes are expensive and i need to take them all 102, 106, 106R and 106P...I am starting next week....
