100Mbs Layer 3 superior to 1Gbs standard swtich?

I am going to upgrade my main switch which feeds 40 computers...

I rarely require fast bandwidth as I don't transfer large files through the network but there is a lot of logging on/off , etc, so would a 100Mbs Layer 3 switch be a better choice than a standard 1Gbs switch? The layer 3 model costs a little bit more but if it would suite me better then it's worth it :)
