Umm, not sure if it was a defragmenter that's responsible, the scandisk, or otherwise, but just now I found probably 800 or more .dll files, numbered like:

"File0001.DLL"
"File0002.DLL" etc etc etc...
..there's hundreds of them, most at an 8kb size and none bigger than 40kb....
but what are these???? how'd they get there??? [I was just in my C: drive about 2 days ago, they weren't there...] and most importantly, they're sitting all in my recycle bin, should I premanently delete them or....??

many thanks in advance, hopefully for a speedy reply because Most of my desktop doesn't work even after a reboot....
Thanks

Sounds like scandisk found data in bad locations, renamed them just like windows 95 used to rename files with a .chk extension. Odds are, they were system dll files at one point. If scandisk renamed them and moved them, then it makes sense that your operating system doesn't work right. What concerns me is the quantity of files. When scandisk finds that many problems on your hard drive (enough to move 1000s of files), I'd be concerned the hard drive itself is failing. Backup anything important now. The only way to test your drive is to format and reinstall. See if the drive runs okay for awhile.
