100% to 0% transparency gradient 1

Hi,
I'm trying to gradient an image from transparent to non-transparent (opacity). With a flat color, this is easy to do with the gradient tool, but how can this be done with a bitmap?

If I'm understanding your question correctly then you can use a layer mask. Select your bitmap layer and click on the layer mask button at the bottom of the layers panel. Then drag a black to white gradient over the layer mask.
