100 seat fax server? What would you do?

We are implementing DID fax for 100 fax lines. What would you do? Lot's of choices. What fax server to use? Keep it simple. Receive fax, email to site (person). Outgoing fax part of package or not?
Your comments and advice are appreciated. Results during implementation will be published in this forum.

First off, analyse you fax traffic to get an accurate idea of system size.

Then look at your requirement to e-mail to person. Do you need to email? I ask as the email integrations are usually more expensive (the good ones at least),

I would then look at Rightfax (which is the only one I have experience with) its MS server based, can be clustered, integrates well with exchange (singe point administration) (option extra thinks), can be clustered. Lots of other good stuff. It even has pretty good client utilities, if you want to forget e-mail! The downside, i suspect its a more expensive option that some of the competition.

Our fax machines are located at many different sites, and email seems to be the cheapest way to route the faxes to the desktop.
Fax traffic is medium usage, about 20 faxes per day per site with some sites at double or triple that.

Need more info really,

How many sites? How geographically seperated are they i.e. are people faxing going to be paying more, in general, to fax to a central server? Do you have WAN service to the sites?

What about outgoing FAX, will call charges increase due to centralisation? How business critical is the Fax (i.e. redundancy many be important Maybe 2 smaller servers at different sites may be better)

We have @ 60 sites; all of which can call toll free into central fax server. Some sites are LD to them from fax server. All sites have minimum 2Mb ADSL. Our fax service is decreasing in importance but back up service will be important. Our main lines are PRI and have a back up site at a different location. The assumption is 1 day out of service is not critical but 1 week would be.
If you do the math; the 100 lines x $45 each and the ongoing fax machine maintenance costs are what is driving this conversion. The convenience of desk top fax is a bonus.

Love it, there's a lot of functionality for the $$.
