I have been having a problem where my NT 4.0/sp5 server has been showing 100% CPU usage even after a reboot, also people have been complaing about slow printing. I went to Microsoft’s site and found that it is the spoolss.exe, which is using all the CPU. It is using from 60%-90% at any given time. They said that the problem was first addressed in service pack 5, but that is what I am running. If I just reinstalled the service pack would it solve this issue? Also I have been hesitant to upgrade to service pack 6 or 6a having heard that there were a lot of bugs in 6 is this still true or should I upgrade.

thank you for your responce

SP6 is better than SP5, IMO. It should fix the spoolss.exe problem.

If you're running terminal server, however, it might be something else - try removing all PCL printer drivers(especially HP ones), replacing them with ordinary drivers.

I hope this helps you
