100% height problem

I'm trying to make the left column always be full height, but am having touble. It seems to end up at 100% height of the browser window, not 100% height of the container div. Any tips?

Where it should be shorter:

try using

height: auto;
min-height: 100%;

Thanks, but that also doesn't seem to be making any difference. No matter if I add it to the left menu div, the container, or both. Any other thoughts? I must be missing something simple, but I can't figure out what.

To create a liquid flexible layout as described you should not be absolutely positioning the navigation elements on the page.

I would highly recommend completely restructuring your css using floats.
