Netware 5.1 server running bordermanager. I cleared the cache so I could resize(shrink) the volume with PowerQuest ServerMagic 4.0 for Netware. Then I was going to move the cache over to a new volume.

On Volume properties in Windows 2K it says there is 10 gig free space, but on the Monitor.nlm it has the volume at 93% full where it should read 90% FREE. Servermagic gets the same 93% full reading.

I already did a Purge after I cleared the cache. Please Help!!

Did you check your Wastebasket folder in Win2K ? Also check the Salvagable files on that volume/folder from the Novell client in Win2K - you may not have purged when you thought you did - you might have just purged the root directory of the volume, and not the folder where the cache was actually stored.

Dunno where the wastebasket in W2K comes into it Fred? NetWare does not utilise the recycle bin or any of that.

Run a CMD prompt, go to a drive where the volume is mapped and run:

NDIR /VOL

and see what that says. Also, from the root of the volume run:

PURGE /ALL

if you haven't already taken Fred's advice and done it. -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"
-----------------------------------------------------

Everything is purged (including subdirectories)and still no go...
Here is the run down:

Monitor states 93% full

Windows has the drive mapping properties at
total size 11.7 gigs
Free space 10.0 gigs

The only question is can volume segments(that's how Servermagic works) or compression interfere in this way. The Volume is not compressed so should I compress it?
How about throwing out a two story window?

What version of the NetWare Client are you running?

Also, have you applied any NetWare 5.1 Support Packs to the Server?

Server Magic v4.0 won't let you re-size a volume smaller if there is not the necessary space available.

Before you begin the Volume resizing, make sure you have a full and complete backup... just in case.

Good Luck.

Netware client 4.7 and 4.8 (I tried it on both)

Support Pack 3

And what did NDIR /VOL say? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"
-----------------------------------------------------

It says:

Total Volume Space 12,288,000 100.00%
Space Used By 57,045 entries 1,726,784 14.05%
Deleted Space not yet Purgeable 64 00.00%

Space Remaining on Volume 10,561,216 85.95%

Space Used if files were not compressed 867,328
Space used by compressed files 323,072
Space saved by Compression 544,256 62.75%

Uncompressed spaced used 1,443,328

Monitor.nlm Still has the drive at 85% full...That is down from 92%, but it still doesn't make sense to me

Any Ideas??

Have you unloaded & reloaded Monitor by chance? Worth a shot if you haven't.

Cheers,

Mark ;-)

I've Bounced the server twice, purged the volume, kicked it a few times, and did a Native America rain dance around the server.

And still no luck...

Whoa, you're good!!! How about replacing monitor.nlm with another copy? I'll get under cover in case it rains...

Cheers,

Mark ;-)

Just tried that...no luck.

I beginning to lose hope.

There is one option: The old screwdriver to the motherboard approach...

Yes I do have Suballocation on and the suballocation unit size is at 512k....
That does appear to be my problem.
From digging around Novell's site it appears that the suballocation can't be turned off....
The only problem is when I do a purge it doesn't clean up the issue.
If anybody knows a workaround let me know.

And thanks for everyone's input on this issue.
