I'm looking for some info that will help clarify some basic configuration questions I have regarding setting up a Cisco VoIP network. For example and for simplicity, assume an Internet connected Cisco 1751 w/ a POTS telephone connected to a single port VIC at the Host location. In the field, assume 4 other similar units. Can the telephone at the Host location place a call to any one of the 4 remote routers? Or does each remote node require a supporting VIC port at the originating Host location? Any link that explains how the router differentiates multiple VoIP paths would be welcome. Thanks.

Yes any port will be able to call any other port if your dialing plan supports it.you will set up dial-peers to send the call to the correct router and also to termiante the call to the voice port. Here is one link, and there are many more at ciscos site.

dial-peer voice xx pots ( this is the termiator)
destination-pattern 800
voice-port 2/0

( this is how you will route the call to the apropriat router)

dial-peer voice xx voip
destination-pattern 801
session target ipv4: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

the termiator will strip the matching digits. ok for fxs but e&m connections or fxo you may not want to. if not add this to the pots peer "prefix 800". this will send the digits 800 to the pbx equipment.
FYI the voip dial peer dosn't
