I have 2 6.49gig hard drives for some laptops but one of them is noisy and the computer cannot find it and the other one is recognized but when I try to format it it gets up to 22% then starts making a chunking noise and just quits saying its not ready. Any suggestions?

The noisy one is possibly not coming up to speed. The failing to format one probably has issues with the head servos. There could be other reasons of course.

Personally, I would junk them. They are unlikely to be worth the effort involved and probably broken beyond repair.

I totally agree with stduc. These drives are so small by todays standards they aren't worth bothering with. HD are cheap these days. Chuck em in the bin.
