My fried just built his computer...and he can't get it up and running...says he was loading all the drivers and when he got to open the cd drive to put in the cd to load the drive for his video card the computer shut down completely...now when he turns on his computer he gets 1 long beep then 3 beeps...i did the research for him and found this..

I explained to him what it could be but he says he already tried doing that and is sure that his card is fine..just bought it today...and his mother board is fine too...what could be the issue?

"Do not attack the First Marine Division. Leave the yellowlegs alone. Strike the American Army."
- Orders given to Communist troops in the Korean War; shortly afterward, the Marines were ordered to not wear their khaki leggings to keep the enemy from immediately fleeing

According to the code your ram is bad. If you have 2 chips take one out and try it. Basically try one at a time. If not get another. According to the beep code on the page though your ram is bad.

so its possible he messed it up somehow? or being that he just bought it today it could of been defected?

Well he could have damaged it a few ways. One way if he was not using an antic static bracelet or not holding one hand on the case while using it he could have shocked it and killed it. You also could have just had a defected part. My advice is pick up an anti static bracelet if you dont have one and also when working with the pc make sure its unplugged and not on carpet. Just request an rma from the company of the ram or company you purchased it from and get a replacement if its still under warranty.

Tejanorey,
Have him look at the video card and make sure it is all the way in the slot. Particularly the tail end (end facing the front of the PC). If this is an AGP card then there will most likely be a latch on the slot to lock the tail end in place.
