User has Outlook 2007 pro in our office environment. Recently, his reminders have not popped up, but just appear in taskbar.
Tried - outlook.exe /resetfolders /cleanreminders. This worked once, then it went back to problem.
also made sure its set to have reminders on top of other windows.

Short of blowing away profile and/or reinstalling, other thouhgts?

the side note, its on Vista sp1. Is it possible vista is stopping the focus on the pop up?

hmm seems I can create on my system too, which is also Vista sp1. Looks like it prevents the reminder window from being focused.
gonna have to google till the cows come home.

If Outlook does not have the focus, then is this not the way it should work normally? It's only badly behaved applications that pop up windows when you're working in another app; they colour and/or flash the taskbar icon and, if the taskbar is set to autohide, it may show to let you know there is a message of some sort pending.

Enjoy,
Tony

So then what good is the Reminder if it does not stand out?
I would believe the idea is to remind me accordingly, standing out so I am aware of what coming up. If I need to search for the reminder, then where-in lies the reminder?

I didnt test on auto-hide, taskbar is not set to that anyway.

Part of the reason is that, if an Outlook window does not have the focus, Outlook does not know what the application with the focus is doing, and popping up a window could cause it a problem. So, it stands out as much as it can, by flashing in the taskbar and sounding an audible warning, both of which it can do without issue, to draw your attention so that you can bring up the window safely yourself. Seems like a considered approach to me.

Enjoy,
Tony

I find that if Outlook is minimized then the reminders won't pop up and will only show in the task bar. However, if you don't minimize Outlook and just have other applications opened on top of it then the reminders will pop up and take focus, whether or not Outlook is in focus.

Cheers.

I agree CM.
It is what it is...but its not a very good reminder IMO.
oh well, there are worse things.
The users best bet is go for the sound notification.

One thing that I should have added is that at the actual time of the appointment the reminder pops up and takes focus regardless of whether or not Outlook is minimized. Not much help if the reminder is for meeting or appointment on the other side of the city...

If memory serves me correctly it will even kick the screensaver off if it is on. Its been a while since I've had enough down time for my screensaver to actually kick in though.

Cheers.
