We have a Merlin Legend R7 with the following modules:
[li]2 - 408 MLX GL/LS[/li]
[li]2 - 016 with Ring Generator[/li]
[li]1 - 012 with Ring Generator[/li]

A couple of weeks ago we had a brown out and since then (well we at least noticed the problem at that time) the 016 modules won't ring a phone with a mechanical ringer. Phones with electronic ringers have no issues. All other aspects of the phone system functions properly.

So far I have replace the power supply and both 016 modules and nothing has helped.

Do you have any other suggestions for me to try before we call in professional help to have it serviced?

I have two things you could try. Ringing Frequency and Fax Extension settings.

RINGING FREQUENCY:

Menu > Sys Program > Exit > Options > More > Ring Frequency > SLOT NUMBER (THE SLOT WITH THE 016-TRR Module) > Enter.

Here you will see a couple of selections - Try the one not being used and see if that helps.

FAX EXTENSION:

In their infinite wisdom, the folks at Bell Labs, when they designed the Legend, realized that some faxes would have trouble with the ring patterns the Legend produces, to that end they developed an optional setting to change it to a SOLID Ring. Here's how you do it:

Menu > Sys Program > Exit > Aux Equip > FAX > Extension > Enter the extension number.

If one or both of these settings don't do it for you, your 016-TRR Module may not be sending enough voltage.

Here is an update:

1 of the replacement modules worked. I swapped slots to verify that it is actually the module and not the slot. The problem moved with the module. I went a order a 3rd replacement module and it has the same issue.

Merlinman, I tried your 1st suggestion on the ring frequency at it was not help. I didn't try the 2nd suggestion as the fax line doesn't go through the PBX.

Even though a fax line may not be connected the system, by changing the setting, the result will be a traditional ring from the connected telephone. I made that exact change when connecting a T/R port off of my church's Magix to the "TEL RING" input on our Bogen TPU100B. Works like a charm! [thumbsup2]

Perhaps I should have provided that bit of info in my instructions. Dexman is correct, I had suggested the FAX EXTENSION Option to have the system provide a "L O N G" ringing signal to the Extension(s) you were having issues with.
