I have a 5 slot carrier with R8 loaded and i recently swaped out 308ec in slot 1 for 012e. slot 2(308ec), slot 3(r8 processor), slot 4(308ec), slot 5(308ec). This is at a small motel. When i installed the 012e in slot 1 i lost incomming caller id on the analog stations as well as the fax CNG recognition on the DXD recording. All 5 trunks com in on the processor board. Any recommendations. I work on the G3 (definity) at all his other properties. This small system is turning into a nightmare.
Thanks for any help in advance
Chris

If you put the 308EC back in, does the caller ID function properly again? If you haven't already done so, try putting the 012 into slot #5 (the far right) and see what happens.

Hi Dexman
Yes it works with 308ec in slot 1 012e out of system. I did npt know I can put 012e i slot 5, Avaya always told me slot 1
thanks

As long as the total number of ports that the processor supports isn't exceeded, I'm not aware of a reason why a 012 can't go into the 5th slot. If a reason exists....it will be posted [smile]

Hi Dexman
AVAYA insists the 012e must be in a slot left of the processor (slot 1 or 2), However you are right it does work in slot 5 --the far right. This guy has his system maxed out--2 contact closures, a pay phone, 2 credit card machines, 1 for his convenience store, a food stamp machine, and the other for the motel (28 rooms). He needs a definity or prologix, but he won't listen to me!!! THANKS for your help problem resolved, 012 in slot 5 and analog room phones get caller id and the fax CNG works
thanks
Chris

A quick glance at the devices listed has me wondering if a Merlin Magix would be a better fit VS the Prologix [ponder].

The Magix supports up to 80 lines or 200 extensions.

[lol] I'm not a dealer [lol]

I work for a CLEC/IXC as a Central Office technician. I have a Merlin Magix and 2 Partner ACS systems under my belt, but I am, for all intents & purposes, an end user.

The Merlin & Partner platforms have been discontinued. I think that the Prologix is also gone. At this point, the IP Office is the only small to mid-sized system that Avaya sells.

Take a look at Metroline Direct for their Merlin Magix offerings. You can get a good idea what a system suitable for your customer's needs will cost.

By ranking, the Partner ACS is the easiest to figure out. The Merlin Legend & Magix are middle-of-the road, while the various Definitys (by their nature) are the most complex.

The Magix R4 processor is the final release as is the R4 Avaya Merlin Messaging.

To get a feel for the nuts & bolts behind the Merlin Magix, download the various Magix documents from Avaya's website and leaf through them. [smile]

Hi dexman
As a former Lucent employee, IT should be G3si instead of a magix/legend

My time in telecom started in 1990. Tek-Tips has a great group of contributors....including a retired Tier-3 for the Merlin....ready to offer advice in resolving telecom issues. [smile]

To keep things running smoothly, posts should try to stay as close to topic as possible. [shadeshappy]

So download the Merlin documents and see if it is something that would benefit the customer. [thumbsup2]
