What is the purpose of this card? I ran into a situation where 3 of these cards were inserted into a Merlin legend and I noticed that each card had 12 ports alotted. 8 that were used and 4 that had a 7000 extension assigned. I also noticed in pricing that the 008 OPT was more expensive than the 012, Now I did learn that the 008 was for extensions at other buildings or locations--so I am really confused now---

This is for a school with several buildings---so does it amplify the voltage to allow it to be at a greater distance away from the cabinet?

Oh well--hope someone can tell me--

Thanks

Yes the 008 OPT (off premise telephone) module was designed to send analog stations a further distance than the 012. The system sees the OPT as if it were a 012 so you eat up 12 station numbers for each OPT module. I'm not sure how far the stations can be sent, but I would guess at least 3000 feet would be a safe estimate. Brian Cox

Thanks Brian. So if I added an 012 for another building--it is likely that the voltage would be very weak. I guess that makes sense as far as the cost then.

Thanks again
