007 sysadmin password reset serial number

I have an 007 with a system administrator mailbox (9997) that I can't get into. I have hyperterminaled in to the seventh port and reset the system password. I know the serial number from this process and the 007 will allow me to use the serial number to get in and change the password. When I try to administer the system over the phone, the 007 will not accept the serial number or the new password. What am I forgetting?

You can't use the serial number to log in, only to change the password for the ADMIN MAIL BOX.

Thanks Merlinman. I was already on to that. I forgot the crucial step of rebooting after "Goodbye". Need to pay attention to details.
