I’ve been in IT for almost four years and recently caught myself using certain words when describing my feelings like:
“Other eyes only click me, but yours double-click my soul”
or
“I want to touch you, need to ground”

I mean ... am I sill "normal"? :)

Define "normal."

Normal as in normalised perhaps? Maybe it's a Scottish thing?

I want to be good, is that not enough?

Normal as to say “I like you” instead of “My keyboard has only one key: [I like you], and I can’t stop writing”

Well, you may be more "normal" than you think. After all, you did put:
“My keyboard has only one key: [I like you], and I can’t stop writing”

And not:
“My keyboard has only one key: [I like you], and I can’t stop typing"

technical romance?

After all, what makes it normal or not is, to who or what you adress "I like you" or "My keyboard has only one key: [I like you], and I can’t stop writing/typing."

Bye, Olaf.

(I'm almost ashamed of that last one.)

That last one is very bad.

And I'm ashamed to say I've used a couple of varients of it... with success.

I had a girlfriend as me once what "daisy chain the UNIs" meant [ponder]... she wouldnt let the conversation continue until we explained it.

Well Done Gooser.... ~laughs after picking up jaw~

Props to you as well MrDenny, I can not think of a single woman I have met - "Geek" or otherwise that would be inpressed by that line. But then again, I've never heard it used - I am only assuming.

--> "Your 127.0.0.1 or mine?" <--

Best I could think up on such short notice.

I like it when you troubleshoot me. Can you start from layer one of OSI?

To answer your question, I don't think anyone in IT is normal. You have to be of a completely unique ilk to work in IT. Also, using the word "Geek", in my opinion, is no longer as derogatory as it once was. The "Geek Squad" get to ride around in those cool VW Bugs. [smile]

GEEK" used to be a 4-letter word.

Now it's a 6-figure one.

(or so they tell me... I've never made 6 figures....)

Just my 2¢

I make a lot more than seven figures, if you count the purdy pictures in those flowcharts... Some days, I make over 1,000 figures!

Hmm... So "Geek" almost = poolboy now?

I believe you are right...Several years ago, when we lived in the S.F. Bay Area, the local PBS channel ran a series on alternative lifestyles. They asserted that a higher-than-normal percent of IT professionals participate in "S&M".

I thought that I would do my own informal survey, so I called up one colleague:
Our phone conversation said:
Mufasa: "Steve, did you see the alternative-lifestyles episode about S&M on PBS the other night?"

Steve: "No, I was tied up."

Mufasa: "Do you even know what S&M is?"

Steve: "Beats me."
