I've looked around quite a bit and there seems to be no way of calling a userdefined function at table level to specify a default value for a field. I have a function to create my own autonumber field but since I can't call it from table level and I don't want a form or a query, it appears to be useless. Any ideas? I'm using Access 97.

why not create a hidden field on your form and populate in onOpen event of the form? Bastien
