I have one PC on our network that runs Windows XP (all the rest are W2K) and it has recently started displaying the '£' symbol as '?' in Internet Explorer.
I have made sure that the Regional options in Control Panel are set to 'English(United Kingdom)' as this is where we are, and as soon as I reselect this option from the dropdown menu of languages and click Apply, then refresh the web page in Internet Explorer, all the '?' symbols display as the correct '£' symbol.
But as soon as IE6 is closed and reopened, ? appears again instead of £ and we have to go through the process of re-choosing 'English (United Kingdon)' in the Control panel regional options to get the symbol to appear correctly.
Does anyone know why this is happening? I have checked all the Internet Options and all appears to be correct.
Can anyone help?

In IE, View, Encoding, select Western European Windows rather than autoselect.

Thanks, this worked a treat. Except I had to do it the other way round. The option selected in View, Encoding was Unicode and I selected Autoselect and the £ symbols now show correctly.

Thanks again.
