KuriousJorj,
Hard drive manufacturers define 1 gigabyte as exactly 1,000,000,000 bytes. By their definition, a 250BG hard drive is exactly 250,000,000,000 bytes. The true definition of 1 gigabyte is actually 1,073,741,824 bytes:
1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte
1024 kilobytes = 1 megabyte

KuriousJorj,
It sounds like you had it right before you did the re-install the second time. You DO need the SATA controller drivers for W2K. You will then right click "My Computer" and select "Manage" from the pop-up menu. This will open the "Computer Management" console. In the left pane...

<<What size is the hard drive?>>
6MB
You did mean 6 GB, right? Either way, it's likely around a 6 years old, but if it shows up in the other machine....
So, you connected it to the same cable that the CDROM was connected to without moving it in the motherboard and it didn't show...
LOKIDOG,
Overclocking is a term for running a CPU, video card, or other component faster than its rated speed. The overclocking I was leaning towards was the CPU/RAM, but if you have not gone into the BIOS settings and changed anything related to this, then it is more likely the hard drives...
Are you overclocking the machine at all?
The reason I ask is because I have overclocked many of my workstations and Windows will act up at the slightest change if the hardware cannot handle it or if there is a bottleneck somewhere.
Just a thought.

SomeTimeOnly,
Sounds like it may be the IDE bus itself. Try connecting the hard drive (Without the CDROM) to the slave channel. Then check to see if it shows up in the BIOS POST screen or in the BIOS itself.

Why don't you hook it up into the second system you spoke of as a slave and run the convert command from a command prompt?
After hooking it up to the machine and allowing the machine to install it, reboot if necessary and make sure it shows up in Windows Explorer. If not, you will need to...
Also, What size is the hard drive? What is the age of the motherboard? Is the other system (3. Take the hard drive to other system. And it’s ok there.) a newer machine?

Yankor,
If you have a bootable copy of Windows XP on CD, just change the boot priority in your machine's BIOS (Generally you can enter the BIOS setup by pressing delete at the POST and the settings should be in either "boot" or "advanced") Once you set the initial boot device to you CD/DVD-ROM...
