fresh built comp. won't boot
I had a simular situation with my AMD Athlon on an ABIT motherboard. Turned out the motherboard was expecting a slower CPU (or was it faster, don't really remember...) and would shut itself down when it didn't find it. I finally found a jumper (referenced in the manual) that I could ground...- mplack

will this config. be cool enough to remain stable and not melt?
I've got a system much the same as you, have the fans installed as you do. Front fan is at the base of the tower, rear fan is about CPU level in back - I use the stock AMD cpu fan/heatsink. I live in Phoenix and keep my house about 82-85F in the summer. System runs fine as long as the room...- mplack
