How to test if sound is playing

Hi oldnewbie, I actually figured that there was a sound.position method that I could use to track if the position of the file is greater than 1,then it's started; then save the position for later if they decide to turn it on- it works alright but your idea is great too. Thanks!

    help with button please

When does the movie need to go to over? Are up and over buttons? I'm not clear what you're trying to do but I've used _root.gotoAndPlay("over") to play a certain frame of the main movie..

How to test if sound is playing

Hi, I'm doing a simple intro flash with a button to start/stop sound. Initially when the flash loads, I play the sound. I want to know if there's a way to test if the sound is already playing before stopping/starting it (depending on which button the user clicks?) That is, if the sound is...

    preloader error

Thanks oldnewbie - for some reason, I tried your script too and it loads till 100% and then keep repeating itself - it doesn't seem to execute what's in if (percentage >=100) { nextScene();} for some reason - when I trace it, I see it's already loaded all the bytes but still keeps reloaded it...

    preloader error

oldnewbie (TechnicalUser): I noticed that you don't like the smooth preloader script - I was trying to get a preloader script to just let my users know that the flash is preloading - that script works well (at least it seems to show the percentages etc. correctly) but instead of having a stop()...

frame rates and smoothness in movies

Hi, I have a small flash intro set at 24 fps. When I run it on my sony machine, it seems to run fine, but if I run it on my old Dell, it is horribly slow. Is there anything I can do the ensure that it runs smoothly no matter what machine? Also, for some reason, the moving image is not smooth...

    Question on Sound and URLs

Thanks. I tried the getURL("http://xxx.com", "_self") but it still opens a new window to bring up the html page and the flash is blank, music is till running. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

    Question on Sound and URLs

Hi, I'm just learning actionscripting so please bear with me. I have 2 questions - (1) Sound: I am adding sound to a intro flash for a website. I have 5 scenes in the movie. I've attached the sound to the first frame of the first scene. It works fine but the problem is that it doesn't stop when...

    moving to nextScene or nextFrame

Thanks! I did put it in the innermost function and it seemed to work - I have a question though - I thought that when it comes out of the first function, then I could call nextScene - do you know why this doesn't work - does it never come out of that function unless you explicitly redirect it...

    moving to nextScene or nextFrame

Hi, I have some code (in frame 1 of a scene) that iterates through a set of images (to scroll them) and when done, I want it to go to either the nextframe or next scene, but everytime I put the code to go to the next scene at the end, it doesn't do anything. I actually had this code from a guy...

Question on design of shopping cart

HI GUJUm0del, ok I see what you're saying but here we're assuming two things; 1. there are 2 tables (one for each level of hierarchy ) - do generic packages support this? 2. you'll need one more table to get details of the products (since this table would only show the hierarchical...

Question on design of shopping cart

Hi, I have the need to use a shopping cart solution that handles the following scenario: A user is initially given a choice of products a, b,c. After he/she chooses a, he/she will be given a choice of d, f but not e. SO basically at some level of the hierarchy I need to control what is displayed...

Apache dead after WinXP User Account setup

THANK YOU Wishdiak! That allowed me to view my test php file but I do have a follow-up question - on a windows type environment, will you have to store all your web files in one directory (the equivalent of /usr/web in unix?) That is, if I have some files under c:/php and some under c:/abcstore...

    More questions on Shopping carts

Hi, Sorry for so many questions but this'll be my first shopping cart site and am a little lost with all the options out there and hosting companies solutions. Few questions: 1. If I go with zencart, will I be able to just put their files where my site is currently hosted and run it or will...

    Running Apache on WinXP

How do I set up Apache on winXP to see all directories? I have set UserDir to "C:/" but whenever I try to access a directory under http://localhost/xx, it doesn't give me access. Do all the files have to be under the serverRoot directory (which in my case is the default c:/program files/Apache...

    site crit please

Nice work - I really like the use of black/white and the brown. It's very clear and catching. Like the contact page and images use. Looks quite good to me.

    Your'e favorite ecommerce site?

I like www.huggermugger.com - it's unique, clear and refreshing. However, I think it's custom coded as it's JSP base (I don't see too many packaged shopping carts that use Java/JSP).
