Screen position is always up... and much better with the TP-Link Nano N adapter, at least in the bookstore. Go figure... how that tiny adapter gives me a 5-bar full strength in the bookstore. -- At home, the factory adapter is still used to connect to my home wifi... seems to work fine by...
cdogg:
Interesting idea. Sounds like you did the legwork to confirm the HP has the same Intel adapter. And I see they stock it in my Best Buy store... so it should not be too much hassle. Maybe if I need a break at B&N sometime soon, I'll wander over there to see about testing your idea...
Update:
To follow my June 17 post, I purchased a smaller USB Wireless N adapter (TP-Link TL-WN725N Nano). Went to the bookstore a 4th time, plugged in the Nano adapter, and voila!... almost instantaneous connection, even without going through the motions of installing the driver. The...

I went back again to the bookstore and tried to figure out how to find and connect to 5GHz signals exclusively but I find both WiFi Analyzer and Acrylic WiFi difficult to figure out how to do this. I did attempt to connect to many available signals with no success.
I have advised both...

I'm at the B&N bookstore for a third time and finally (some) success! ... sort of, but still a big mystery.
I loaded the Acrylic Wifi analyzer and it told me that the B&N signal was the strongest one... 3 or 4 bars. Since my last post, I got some feedback from an Intel forum post...
cdogg:
Thx for the quick response. I will try your wifi analyzer suggestions... it slipped my mind. I should mention that I walked around the inside of the B&N store to find the strongest signal... but the max on the Zenbook was 4 out of 5 bars. Nowhere was their a place that I could get past...
I'm sitting in the Barnes & Noble bookstore again... and no luck. (I'm writing this post on my Chromebook which connects without a problem.) I'm still getting the same "The connection is limited" message after is is connected to the B&N wifi or the neighboring Best Buy store Wifi.

For the last 2 years, I've been a Chromebook/cloud user for my "away from desktop" uses and have not regretted it. (Have you had any of these in your experience?) The only reason I'm considering this light and fast Zenbook is because I've run into some limits with the Chromebook now...

Sorry to take so long to respond. I think you are exactly right as I compared the Zenbook with my Acer C720 Chromebook in my backyard. The Chromebook consistently outperforms the Zenbook -- quite a surprise for me. I'm spoiled by the Chromebook's wifi performance.
I did as you...
ASUS Zenbook UX305FA, new on 6/8/15. Fron Microsoft Store, no bloatware. Win 8.1.
I'm getting no replies from Microsoft's Answers community, so I figured to get back to this forum that seemed to have *real* experts for me in the past. I'm copying the following from that forum:
New from MS...
Well as it happens, our 8-year old Sony WinXP machine won't pass the post test this morning... that may be another thread here, I don't know. Anyway I may not get to try your procedure.
But thanks for all your help - Tek-Tips is my go-to forum for good advice when I need it.

I think that I'll look at the USB device for the simple reason that it will be more usable anywhere. For now, my cable connection allows me to print to a wireless printer on the other end of the house (4 rooms away).
After getting my wired Win7 machine to print to the wireless printers, I...

Right again... it's a P6616f by some paperwork I found.
I don't like troubleshooting wireless stuff... I had to switch to a wired keyboard to get to the BIOS setup. Anyway, I found these 2 settings Enabled:
"Onboard LAN" and "Onboard LAN Boot". I did not see anything else...
Thx to all for input!

I don't see the selection "Manage Network Devices" in my Network and Sharing Center screen. But in Device Manager Network Adapters, it only shows the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller.
As for the release / renew technique, I think Win7 network troubleshooter...
The wireless network connection for my 1-1/2 year old HP desktop (Window 7 Home) computer has quit working... it does not see a wireless network. Although I'm now using a Cat5 cable connection to my Cisco Valet router, it is irritating to me that I can't print to my wireless printers w/o a USB...
Bad news - Corsair
See my previous post. I accidentally said my new memory was Crucial... it is *Corsair* memory. Apologies to Crucial.
I make this correction so that there is no misunderstanding. Corsair is not standing behind their ValueSelect memory. Their last (and apparently final) word...
Update (uh-oh)
After 1 day of using the new Crucial 4GB sticks, the laptop won't even boot... it won't even get to the Post (I think that's what it is). After a very anxious period, I put the factory 2GB sticks back in and it boots fine.
I guess I'm changing my opinion of Crucial, at least...
Update
I received the Corsair replacement sticks; tested them with Memtest - all OK. (I would buy from them again - good service!) Then tried some videos. The video that started my suspicions earlier this year ran fine. And some other web based (hi-res) videos that stuttered during intense...
Thx to all for helpful answers and suggestions.

Indeed Corsair does have a good return policy... no questions asked and I've got my RMA and will be getting replacement sticks.
I have tried running some videos in my XP VirtualBox and they seemed to run OK although I'm not sure if this...

I ran the Memtest86 v4.10 on the newer Corsair 4GB (2x2GB sticks) and found errors. So I put the factory 1GB sticks back in (one at a time) and tested each 1GB stick separately and they both passed thru all 8 tests. But this is all puzzling since I had stuttering video with the...
