    i am facing the same issue: need to launch the QT player from a text link. don't think this is possible other than with Safari (right click and chose "open with quicktime player" option). but what about other browsers? any ideas?

    most likely, the difference is in the way these movies were encoded. quicktime allows a "progressive download" option when compressing which starts playing the movie while it is still downloading. that seems to have been the case with the first movie.
