We are running mgetty with Fedora ver 1 and using a modem to connect to other Linux servers with cu as well as using uucp to send files between these servers. The modem works once when rebooted and then says 'All matching ports in use.' even though the permissions have been reset on the modem...

I have installed Mandrake ver 9.1, but can't get ftp working so that I can ftp to the server from a PC. I have run wu-ftpd. This lets me connect to the server and brings up the login, but no logins are allowed to ftp.

I ran lsof and ps and the only reference to the running app is for the terminals that show up in the who list.

We have a server running Fedora, ver 2.6. The terminal ID's aren't being released, so that when pts/1, pts/2 and pts/3 are logged in and pts/1 logs out, the next person to log in gets pts/4 instead of pts/1. Is there a setting somewhere we have missed? Please help...

Thanks for your help, I had a similar problem on a different server running the same app and the same version of SCO. It may be that the apps binaries are not 100% correct for the OS. Be that as it may, I wrote a script to run every 10 minutes to kill instances of the app with a PPID of 1...

Ken, I have checked with my supplier and they can't help. They did say they could contact SCO with the problem though. I think I will get a script going as an interim measure and contact SCO to see what they suggest.

Yes! The PPID is 1. The term ID is ttypx, though. The process is running, although not necessarily doing anything. Would a script to kill these processes run every minute be the only way to get rid of them? It just seems like a bit of a crappy way to solve the problem.

I just checked one. The parent process ID is 1. The PID can be killed and the license is then released, but I would have to put in a cron job to continually check the processes for these 'defunct' jobs.

Hi Ken, Thanks for the reply. Our application uses an interpreter which links to a license manager. This does keep track of the number of licenses used. What is happening as well is that processes appear when doing a 'ps -ef', but not when doing a 'who'. These processes take up application...

Hi, I am getting the above message logged in the /usr/adm/messages file. On one of the servers, it seems that as the additional user logs in, an original user is kicked out. Any suggestions? Thanks Dave
