Don't know what Ruby offers, but your point is still valid. I only need to show them the sql for the existing cbos and let them do the conversion to the web front end.
As the saying goes... I'm over-thinking it again!
Thanks
I modeled a database in Access and now am migrating it to MySQL via ODBC. Once everything works without linking tables, I can turn it over to a Ruby On-Rails developer to do the front end.
My issue is how to source the many cbo's on my forms. The first question is how does Access handle cbo...
In some built-in functions like msgbox you can pick parameters from a combo. Eg., msgbox "Prompt", [Buttons as VBMessageBoxStyle] cbo opens here and you select vbConstants from drop down list.
How can I include a combo in my functions?
I have a continuous subform and tab/enter moves thtu the fields. When tabbing out of the last field it goes to a new record putting the focus there which I don't want to happen.
Why? I have a navigation button set that needs a field id from the current record to populate the next form. No id...
I think I used to know this stuff a few decades ago, but....
I must have a new standalone Access app up & running by 4/1. To "save time" I brought forms over from a large adp and scripted the views from the Sql Svr back end.
I have a lot of the views converted to Access but am stymied on the...
We had it that way for a long time and it wasn't better in our situation. We are a non-profit with very limited funds and most of the PC's were donated and very old with 64Mb ram, and the front end db kept crashing. This way the load moves to the server and does pretty good.
We are beginning...
I have a multi-user A2k db with both front & backend on a server. Users remote into the server and run it from there.
Users have limited permissions so I include the WITH OWNERACCESS OPTION in my coded queries.
One process calls for deleting data in a temp table but they get an error saying...
I had 1 Access db open, about 6 reports open in dev view, and the VBA window. After working for a few hours I saw an error box stating I had run out of handles and to increase the number of handles in the registry.
I thought just another error msg and kept on working. When I closed all open...
I have used AVG for a long time and it consistently is highly rated. I use the free version which I understand does the same scan job but doesn't have a bell or whistle.
What is your opinion of this pgm?
I have a Pop3 account in addition to Exchange and am using Outlook 2003. My Pop3 account "me@sam.net" receives forwarded mail. I'm getting spam through that account but still need it for a select few users. I made a rule to delete mail that "arrives *through* the specified account"...
I hadn't heard of either application and that's sad. I find I'm becomming one of those old guys who tell you all about managing a bevy of NT4 servers when they were the new technology.
I'll play with these and march on. I may be back if I'm too damn old to understand them.

I started a script to copy most of the "My Documents" folders to another location on my local PC. I've been writing it basically by wearing down the problems but now I've spent way to much time and am hoping for a clean, simple solution.
I need it to:
1. Copy all folders and docs within...
Mark, you hit on a big one with specific folder settings. This is one of our time wasters as the tech doesn't know what shares the user had and it's only when something doesn't work that it gets tracked down and fixed. Also, we do want the old email address to forward to the new.
Monsterjta's...
Thanks to all of you for your quick help. I don't know what exact procedure we will eventually take, but the concept sounds valid.
jkupski's method reads like it is the "MS official" method as everything is done through dialogues. I tried it and it worked quite nicely. Am I correct that this...
Please excuse my not knowing this, but I'm in the first stages of writing procedures for exiting and incoming users. Some knowledgeable people will refine it later, but I need to know this part up front.
My concept is up for replacement employees to assume the former one's PC setup, with all...
