Check this: 2 PCs with nt4ws, have tcpip and can ping each other fine. They also have netbeui but can't see each other in net neighbourhood so that I can share files and make one of them like a server PC ... Any ideas?
Thanks
Is it possible to configure NT workstation to act in a similar manner as NT server so that I can setup users on it and apply certain restrictions users have on their PCs, i.e.
access to control panel, network properties etc...

I have told it can be done but I don't know how

help...

Thanks for that one - it really has cleared a few things for me now...

Just one more please!!!
you may think it is a silly question but I have to ask it:

If you think Access could do the job (and I also believe it is good enough!)where would you put Lotus Approach -...

I need some help with a little problem:
I need a database for spare parts in my garage and I know someone who can design a database in Oracle 7, but I need to know can a database created in Oracle run on a PC without Oracle installed on it.

Can it run like a database created in MS...
I have sorted it chaps and this is how!
I started off AGAIN with the original NT4 SP1 installation CD and created a 2Gb system partition although the rest was not recognised by NT at the installation stage. Once I installed it I ran the SP5 and it recognised the other 16Gb of HDD as it...
I have now heard that NT4 (original service pack 1 setup disk)cannot cope with HDDs larger than 8Gb unless an updated atapi device is specified during the setup procedure.

I have looked for it and it is available as part of SP2, 3, 4... but what I need are those updated atapi files...
My win95 machine stops every time it gets to the win95 splash screen. Then I have to reset it, it goes into safe mode, after I reset it again it starts OK.

Any ideas??
Thanks guys!
I am 99% sure it is down to a hardware error. Maybe RAM or the HDD but the damn thing is brand new under warranty so I've sent it back for replacement of those bits. When it comes back, hopefully very soon, I'll give it a go again and then let you know. The reason I believe...
Even if the CPU can be seen as a Pentium, I doubt it would run as fast as one, so the question is would your application run at all if it requires a Pentium CPU??
I have tried some of this:

I fdisked the HDD first and then tried NT4 - no good.

Then I tried fdisking the drive to remove everything of it and try a Win98 installation! Surprise - got to about 33% and then it decided to just freeze again.
BTW, where do you create the...
Guys,

I am trying to install NT4 server off a CD it boots and goes so far every time but stops at different stages and those are usually before I manage to partition drives. In fact the last attempt stopped when I tried to set the size for the FAT and NTFS partitions.
My worry is...
Exactly, I have a 4Mb S3 and I really don't see any need for anything else - I only use the server for monitoring the network. Its cheaper as well.. ha ha.
Yeah, try going backwards with SPacks maybe..???
And good luck!
I agree! I've noticed that even a 3D screensaver can slow it down so much, never mind a CD burner. Go for a workstation, you'll probably have more luck...
Maybe it is set to look for new messages every now and again..? However, first time I heard about this sort of problem with OE. BTW, what version is it?
Go on then. I'll be first :
Does anybody else here think that this new Feb 2000 release date will actually be .. ? and has anyone tested a beta, is it any good?
