Hello,
I've been searching for this without much success, so hopefully someone on this forum can help.
We have a number of fileservers, each about 1Tb in size. Recently, we've been losing large chunks of available space in a very short time, eg yesterday there was 30Gb free on the primary...
Hi again everyone,
Just wanted to say thanks for all your input; there are many things which you have suggested which I am going to investigate, and if we find the solution to our particular problem I will post it up here.
Cheers,
Graeme
Some interesting feedback here, thanks guys. It's interesting that you reckon brand new machines should be taking 45-60 secs; to start our testing I benchmarked our latest Dell D620 machine (2.16GHz dualcore processor, !Gb RAM). Over a number of runs the boot time without the network cable in...
Hi,
Well, we're pretty happy with 2min+ to be honest, but the problem lies with the Managing Directors who decide that any good network should be able to provide a login of 30-60 secs!
At bootup the longest time is taken at the "Preparing network connections" and "Applying security settings"...
Hi all,
We are a corporate organisation which is part of a global AD forest, with our EMEA domain being one of 10 in the forest. The EMEA domain has approximately 8000 objects in it and 20 GPOs applying across various sites.

Hi all
I'm looking for a bit of advice from any GPO gurus out there please!
I have an environment with about 800 users, all of whom currently have local admin rights on their machines. We want to lock down their access to the machine, particularly in terms of not allowing them to add/remove...
Hi all
I hope I've chosen the right forum for this question; mods please let me know if not.
I've been having severe problems with my printers since the August Patch Tuesday. After investigation, I've realised that we're not the only ones with this problem; it was caused by one of the patches...
Thanks mate,
Using the listsvc and disable commands at least enabled me to get into the OS again, and from there I was able to use the sc.exe command to delete the smefs.sys driver and that seems to have resolved the issue! I can now boot as per normal...
Thanks for your help!
Cheers
Graeme
Hello
I'm really hoping someone else has seen this before. I've built a WinXP box from scratch; it's a standard Dell Optiplex GX260. However, on boot-up, on reaching the login screen, I receive a bluescreen with SMEFS.SYS being named in the STOP code. Seeing as I cannot get in via Safe Mode...
