Scandisk won't stop coming up!

Scandisk won't stop coming up!
I have a Win98SE based NEC Direction V system, on which Scandisk will not stop coming up at boot up. Even after closing the Microsoft way! While I have disabled this at the NEC tech services request, I would like to cure the problem, not treat the symptoms. Any help or ideas would be useful...- PsychosonicSid

HDD making some strange noises!
Quantum Fireball 10Gb drive on a Gigabyte board with Intel chipset. Running Win 98SE. A few weeks ago, my HDD developed a sound that sounds that is difficult to describe! Sounds like a loud writing, then a ping! This happens at random timings. At which point the PC freezes, and the dreaded blue...- PsychosonicSid
