try this: go to --http://pcugr.org/ShareWareSig/april.html--
download the small freeware program called BLA and follow the boot trail. With this you can view the entire boot sequence, just the failures or just the long delays till the final boot.

As I said in my original question, I have done extensive research and this info was previously posted, I therefore have checked it out and to my chagrin the reg. key was not even present to be able to deleat. So at this time there is no solution present.
I have checked all the previous threads concerning the Quick Launch bar and could not find any solution to my problem. It seems that in the process of cleaning up the hard disk I must have deleated something, but what I don't know. I have been keeping my computer free of unnessasary files for...

thank you all,It was simply the setting in the bios that selects the choice of ide channels. In these BIOS it is in a folder called "Features Setup" and called "Onboard PCI IDE".
I have inherited a PCchips M598lmr. All the drivers are installed and I am running win98se.No problems with the existing setup using 1 hd and 1 cd-rom installed on the primary IDE channel. However when attempting to install another hd on the secondary ide, it is not detected. When checking the...

If I might put my two cents in,let me suggest you control the virtual memory insteat of windows.Put in the min and max windows 12mb more than your physical memorywhich in your stated case would be 128 +12 =140mb.Ignore the warning that is designed to scare you and give it a try.
I too recomend that you set the properties of the monitor and hard disk to "never" in Power Managment. This was the only solution I could find.
TyrantSSV, Maybe it is a problem that is caused by the NIC cards that are made by Linksys.I have been told by others that they have no problems with cards from other mfgs.As to Wingate,it is OK but cannot work without the functioning TCP/IP on the NIC.
