Transfer data from old laptop HD
if the pc has a lan card then network it to another pc if you can you will need a router/hub to achieve this but this is the method i use and you dont have to worry about technical stuff getting in youre way like hd incompatibilities- G939

Computer won't boot-up
try to find a motherboard utility and test the mother board it could be 1 or both of youre ide channels or you could be using the wrong type of ide cable for that hdd. you generaly can find mb utills on the web for free try www.downloads.com they might have one that you need for free or hell...- G939

hard drive wont format
Yo grossac what file system are you using, how many hdds are in the system, and are they all using the same file system, using the same file system on both hdds is essential if not this is probably where youre problem lies- G939
