No luck getting any info on this SMD Chip so far.
Anyone out there have a 132T they can pop the cover off of and at least eyeball this/take MACRO picture of for me?
My Dell 132T/ADIC 24 LTO3 tape library works, drive reads/writes just fine but it was taking a long time to load/eject and giving me 'pick error, clean picker' errors - which means that the gizmo that grabs, carries and loads tapes to the barcode reader and drive is on the fritz.
After several...
Andy,
No - not sorted ;-) Have not been back on the ATL-P1000 since it's return from FedEx for shipment damages (what a mess) and the STK was moved at the behest of wifey, to the basement where it is sitting, waiting for server and LAN reconnect - another yet-to-be-done project: Wiring the...
OK! Appears we are getting somewhere with this afterall. I will ask around - first I have to find Denver-based STK brokers tho' ;-)
Still need those parts for my 'other' DLT Library (the ATL-P1000 or SUN L1000) so if anyone can help, it is much appreciated.
All...
First, thx alot for your input help and assistance. I am grateful for the info you provided BUT still cannot find a site that provides replacement cabinet parts for my P1000 unit. I need Front Bezel, Left and Right doors, rear filter assy (top and bottom) along with covers. The duct-tape...
One more thing... If you use it to clone more than 1 image, you will need to run NewSID on each copy to ensure acceptance by the Domain controller(s) as these use SID (System Identification Designators) for this purpose. You can do a flood of boxes using a milti-port hub or switch (better) but...
Can one, utilizing either of these main ports, access, dump and upgrade the 9730 to handle SDLT drives? - I dunno... Maybe grab ROM code, hack it and re-write/upload to the box? (I am an Electronics Engineer too and quite good with this type stuff)
This used, Ebay-sale STK9730 is no longer...
Use compression ONLY if you must ($20 buck is cheap for 200Gb tape) see - Ebay)
We have found that using compression of data to the tape takes alot longer to backup, and alot longer to restore due to the mathematical overhead required for that feature - and it isn't reliable. The data is just...
Use Ghost.
www dot symantec dot com
I have been using it since the early 80's when it was a DOS only product and the guy in Belgium that invented it had not yet sold out to Big Business.
You can set up a Ghost image server on any machine in your network, with disparate images of every diff...
My STK 9730 has 2 serial-looking 9-pin, sub-D connectors on the back. I don't remember how they are labeled, but I'm unable to find any Tech-Ref that explains their use/purpose or tells me how to connect. I would try a serial comm programm (Putty, Hyperterm, ProComm...) but don't want to...
Colorado. Too far away for a stop-by I am sure, although I do make a great cup of coffee ;-)
In the meantime, I also bought a P1000 (now SUN L1000) with 4 4 DLT-7000 drives and 30 empty tape bays. It too arrived damaged but I managed to fix it (bent H and V traverse bars and Tape Cart sensor...
Not using NetBackup, but get a copy of Sage Tools from Quantum, install and run the X-Talk Console tool. It'll tell you everything you want or need to know about your drive(s) - and some things you dont! ;-)
SDLT is Top of the pile right now with 1.6Tb/Tape, but they are expensive. I bought an older Storagetek (Sun) 9730 Robotic Tape Library, with 4 DLT7000 drives and 30(!) tape bays with the intention of eventually upgrading the 7000-type drives to SDLT320 which I am told have the same dimension...
The bigger and stronger the better, but exercise extreme caution when handling them in pairs or around ferrous metal. They will SLAM together, shatter and splinter and they will pinch the skin between your fingers and draw blood! Just put one on each tape for ~1hr.
I use the magnets from big...
No, it is a DLT7000. I wrote: 1 (drive) has all lights on its LEFT side *facing the drive) flashing. The other has the bottom 3 lit steady, then all go out. THe lights are down each of the 2 front sides ;-)
I read somewhere that you need to degauss DLT tapes before using them on older WS80. When the tape loads, it is 'read' and accepted if the format is correct. Obviously it is not, so it rewinds it and spits it out.
Try 1 and see.
Setting a Neodynium or Samarium-Cobalt 'Supermagnet" on top of...
look into the front of your SLDT, and ensure the tape leader is there, waiting for a tape to pull into the machine. Tape/Cart signals are only 'Ready" after the mechanism pulls ~30" of tape out of the cart, and sensors indicate it is wrapped and ready. I'm guessing the leader popped off its...
All, Check your cables and total length of them to ensure compliance with SCSI, Ultra2 and Ultra3 specs... and make sure none are running over or alongside power or light (60hz) cabling - just a poss that electrical noise is injecting spurious signals into the mix and feeding the drives or card...
I bought a Storagetek 9730 library recently which was packed well, but arrived inop. The problem was the robotic counterweight had not been isolated and locked for transport, and the band snapped.
I fixed that, plugged in the Tek and waited until all activity ceased, then I saw that 2 of the 4...
