You also need to check the security settings in IIS for that directory. By default it will lock you out. I have mine set to only allow admins at my private IP address to have access to that folder. Obviously you want to lock down this page.
Yeah, you would just have to change a few settings in the AD user object. (name, username, description, E-mail address etc). You can create a secondary SMTP E-mail address (if you use Exchange) with their old name so that they don't miss any E-mails either.
