We are paying the price because:
Most of our tech personnel are very knowledgeable of Linux
Windows servers requires expensive licenses for both user cals, OS license, SQL licenses, etc.
Once you are 100% Windows, you are hostage to Microsoft, when they do an update, they do not care if the...
About 4 years ago, my company decided to move our vertical application to Windows, at the time I strongly recommended to stay with UNIX or if they prefer to move to LINUX, they overrule me, now we are paying the price of such a bad decision in both time and money.

What I am looking for is ONE scripting language that will allow me to do the script for the function I need to do that also has the ability to create the windows environment. I know I may have to learn the scripting language, but I reluctant to be force to learn 2 languages to accomplish a...
Let me start by saying that I am not a Windows expert.
Is there a scripting language that would allow me to create short programs to perform different function in a Windows server system such as adding new users, changing passwords, and other items related to the server in general.
Since this...
I have a 2003 system with 2 drives, one holds the OS and files, the other was being use just to hold files.

The SCO UNIX I am ftp from is in Miami FLA. The Linux box is in North Carolina, I know they have over there all kinds of firewalls, so I going to call them up and have them check the passive mode settings on the firewalls
Thanks
Joe
I tried using passive mode, but it still does the same thing, when I enter the command "get filename" it just sits there.
Also when I pressed "delete" to terminate the connection, it printed "Passive mode refuse"
Thanks
Joe
I am trying to ftp from a SCO UNIX 5.0.7 to a Debian Linux server.
This is what happens. I enter ftp and the address, it connects and allows me to enter login ID and password.
At the prompt I enter commands such as ls, get, etc. Any time I enters these command the system just sits there and...
I read the post recommended by annihilannic and this post I do not think is related to my problem:
A- the transfer in our case do not stop at the same size every time.
B- We try to ftp the data from a local PC to the server withing the same network and it also failed.
C- We are unable to...
We are able to transfer small files with no problems, in the case of the zip file, it actually downloads a small amount of it, between 14 to 25 kb, before it hangs.
The user is root, due to the way the auto updates are set up, they have to be done with root privileges.
We have not try to do a...
Yes, we are aware that the PC ftp defaults to text, we do change the transfer mode to binary as standard operating procedure when we are doing a transfer from PC to UNIX.
However, the script that does the update ftp from UNIX to Linux, which the default is binary. When I did the manual ftp...

I do not know what type of tape you are using, if they are the dds type they cost about $8.00 each. They need to be replaced every year, and, based on some one with lots of experience in backups 2 tapes is not sufficient, you should have one for every day of the week that you do backups.
My...

You may have a problem in the inittab file of your system. cd to /etc, enter cat inittab, if the system response is that there is no inittab file or the file is empty then you found your problem.
The following command will rebuild the inittab file on a SCO 5.0.7, I do not have SCO 6, you may...
I agree with patw, I have used Microlite for a very long time. It is simple to use, it is very reliable, has a good recovery option and recovering single files is easy.
Best of all, once it is setup the only thing you need to do is to change your tapes EVERY day.

Mr. Rashkin:
As far as I know, no changes has been made to the OS in the server (SCO 5.0.7)
Andrew:
I have done extensive Google searches on this topic, I found several pages on people asking the same question but NO specific answers.
