Does anyone know for sure when the counters like udpInOverflows, udpInCksumErrs etc. that you see with netstat, get reset? Is it after a reboot or after plumbing the interface/nic?
Thanks!!
Thanks KoningM and Martin!!
it4bizz - Our environment is very small. One Master Server, a tape library, and about a dozen Unix servers and a couple of windows clients. Thats it.
We have a couple servers connected via fibre to a SAN and I am trying to figure out the best way to back those guys...
We are running NB 6.5.3, Solaris.
Our site is fairly small and we only use a couple of tapes for full back ups. I would like to make a copy of the tapes and send them to an alternate site for off site storage, and keep the originals here on the main site. What is the best way to do this?
Our...
Does anyone know how Solaris determines/uses the free disk space when performing a Live Upgrade?
If I have 10gb of free disk space in /opt, will Solaris use that or do I need to allocate 10gb to a slice and just not use it?
We have a 136gb disk and I have plenty of space, but just not sure how...
Update.
Increasing the size of the LUN on the EVA was not a problem. Getting Solaris 9 to recognize the new size was the problem. According to SUN I should be able to do this by going into Fomat, select the LUN, and use the auto-configure option, and label the disk. Data will still be there so...
Thanks p5wizard.
Currently none of our SAN LUNs are under LVM control. The only command I know to increase the size is growfs. If this partition was mirrored, I could use the growfs and do what you suggested. I will look into LVM more and see what I can come up with.
Thanks for your suggestion!!
itsp1965 - I don't understand what you mean. The new lun will be assigned via the OS. But I still need to move the data into it from the existing LUN. What am I missing?
Thanks RMGBELGIUM. This situation is pretty stupid.
How do I go through lvm? I'm familiar with LVM but don't see how that...
Ok, thanks David. I will try that tomorrow. Sounds like that is what I am looking for. I thought that the interface was not available anymore. I like the command line anyway, and will see if the interface is still there. I have to quit reading and start doing:))
Pure gold David. Thanks!!
I went over your examples and understand what is going on.
By the way, I think you missed a ending " quote on your very first example:))
I also think I will take you up on your kind offer and ask a question.
We have about 30 Sun Freeware programs we use in...
Darn David..Thanks!!
I've been reading docs for almost 2 weeks and haven't come across that yet. I've been scratching my head (and something else:)) trying to see how this was going to work. I've seen the lucreate many times but haven't seen anything to lead me to believe that I could still set...
Doing a live upgrade from Sol 9 to Sol 10. I have the Sun Docs and am using them. I also found a few step by step guides via Google that look real good and is much easier to follow.
I have an available disk to put Sol 10 on and will put the boot env on it etc. The guides I found have you make...
We have a HP EVA 6000 San with a LUN containing 350gb of data. We are running out of space on that LUN so we created a larger LUN. Now we need to copy the data from the old LUN to the new. I am not the Admin of the SAN and don't know anything about it. I'm the Unix Admin.
The San admin says...
Is there anything special that needs to be done to start using a different new catalog tape or can I just remove the current one and replace it with a new one?
Also, what is recommended for the retention period for the catalog backups? I think mine was set to a week and I was thinking of...
Hi all,
I am in the process of setting up a Fiber Transport Media Server to perform backups from our SAN. I just read that one of the requirements is for a special Sun badged (Qlogic) HBA.
By accident I ran across some documentation that said to put the HBA card in a 133MHz PCI slot. Well...
In setting up a syslog server with Solaris 10 and using ZFS for the entire disk, is there any reason to create zones? From what I have read I should still be able to take snapshots of the one Global zone, restrict CPU usage, restrict disk usage etc withing the Global default zone.
The...
