Thanks catorze, your input's much appreciated. I moved this inquiry to the IBM Disk & RAID Solutions thread as I wasn't getting any responses here. It turns out the problem was the ServeRAID card. I'd considered the possibility the problem was the cable or a connection, but they checked out ok...
I just wanted to thank rclarke250 and technome for your input, and to let you know the server is back up: the problem was the ServeRAID card. Once I put in a new one rebuilding began; there were no problem drives, and all data was intact. Thanks again.
Thanks very much for your input -- it's greatly appreciated. I just scrounged up a ServeRAID controller so will see if that's the issue. I'm still a little suspicous about the backplane, as I have two dogs and recently when I went to clean out the hard drive cage, low and behold, against the...
I started this thread under IBM Servers, but haven't had any responses, so it's probably too general a heading for posting there. I can't stress enough how enormously appreciative I will be for any help on this...
I have three IBM Netfinity servers peer-to-peer networked, all using Windows...
I don't know if this will help. I personally don't know what would be considered reasonable for the server you mention, but because of budget constraints any server I've bought has been through eBay. I wouldn't doubt the reseller you're dealing with does at least some sales there, as I've found...
Someone might correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand it's the type of memory configuration the server uses, how data is stored and accessed in memory. Both scenarios have about the same average latency times (you know when you buy a dimm and it says CL2 or CL3, CL2 has the faster...
I have three IBM Netfinity servers peer-to-peer networked, all using Windows 2000 Pro. Recently (June 26) my Netfinity 5000 (8659-22Y) crashed. I have three 18.2 GB drives (all IBM DNES-318) in an array at RAID-5. There are two additional 18.2 GB drives slotted in (both IBM DNES-318 as well)...
I don't know about the dimm problem, but have you ever been able to bootup with the KVM attached to your Netfinity 5000? I never have. With mine, it seems the server will only boot properly if it recognizes a directly attached mouse, keyboard and monitor. If a KVM is between it and the...
