Figured it out. It's not Crystal nor WinXP but it is the format of the date field within the .txt file. When we changed the format to 04/30/04 it worked great. Sorry for the bad post.

Whoops, sorry for any confusion but this is happening on Win2000 also. I had my ODBC driver pointing to a wrong field.
