Well, working with someone over the phone who is non-technical is very difficult and we were not able to make any headway on her registration problem so I told her to call a local tech or contact the store where she purchased the upgrade.
I hate doing that, but I feel that OS installation...
Long time no see guys!!
I have a customer that upgraded her computer in one of our office and it's at the screen where it wants her to register with Microsoft and her options are yes or no. If she says yes she needs proxy information (we are blocking the microsoft site until February to allow...
Well, I have bad news. I've had to tell the customer to call a local technician. It's very hard to troubleshoot over the phone when you're several thousand miles away and unable to do a remote assistance.
I was able to run a Spybot S&D and found out that she had DyFuCa and CoolWWWShredder...
Thanks diogenes10.
I will do my best to work on your suggestions and post here and everywhere if it works.
I should know the answer in the next 24-48hours depending on whether or not I can get a hold of my customer.
BTW crow053....
You are my hero. I'm the only one in my department that can half-way read those hijack logs so trying to explaing to 10 other people for support is a bear and you just saved my countless hours of training and 2ndary support!!!
You get a kudos!!
You can run hijack this and then cut and paste your log into this great website that will analyze your hijack log and tell you what is good, bad, and ugly!!

Give that a try and see what...
I've been reading castlecops and bleeping and posted at both sites but haven't gotten a response from either and it's just killing me!!
I don't mind being patient, but I feel like I'm in limbo.
I've tried some of what yellowhammer has suggested, but unfortunately some of the sypmtoms are not...
Sounds like you've got a BHO (Browser Helper Object) that's causing some problems.
Another really great tool is the Toolbarcop which you can download from www.majorgeeks.com under the Spyware Tools.
This will show you all of your BHOs (some are good and some are bad) You will probably find...
I have a computer that has the Umonitor spyware among other. I was searching CastleCops forum and it appears to be a nasty removal process, but I trust my buddies at tek-tips so here I am.

I have a customer that appears to be deeply infected with lord knows what. I know that they are spyware and not actual viruses because they have black ice, and AVSW (I think it's NAV).

Unfortunately one of the web based apps doesn't run on Firefox so we can't test that theory, but I will have him check to see if he can log into his bank through Firefox.
I found out that he has Norton Internet Security and Norton System works and he reportedly had trouble with these two...
Hello,
I have user with Windows 2000 and IE6 and he can't access any secure web-sites.
Now in XP there's a couple of things you can do like re-registering some IE dlls and there's a registry fix that can sometimes do the trick, but I haven't been able to figure out this customer's dilema.
I'm...
Wanted to let you all know what happened.
The user's profile was corrupted so we created a new profile and moved over his documents and then deleted his old profile and he's now able to open his registry editor.
Thanks for all your help fellow techies :o)
I suspected possible malware and I also suspected that perhaps his user account has been corrupted.
I'm going to give this user a call and see if he can access the registry through another admin acct and if he can't then I definitely suspect malware.
I guess great minds DO think alike :o)
Trying to open regedit and I get this error.
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item.
Check user account and it has Administrative rights and he is showing up as a member of Administrators in the Computer...
Will NTRIGHTS work for XP too? I'm one of those that doesn't like snoops either so I was just curious. I've renamed my admin acct and chgd the password and all the fun stuff, but I'm just trying to be overprotective.
TIA
Carrie
BTW, I know I haven't been on the forum lately and I do...

Now I'm getting "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item."

I've got a user that needs and has Microsoft VM loaded on their machine, yet when I'm trying to access my web-based application it warns me that I need to install Java VM.
Are there some dlls that I can reregister for IE or is there another alternative.
Here's the layout of the scenario. User...
