Same thing happened here on XP. The reason is hotfix Q815485 OR Q826942. These contain an advanced XP network upgrade that requires WEP. I went to control panel, Add remove programs, and unistalled the hotfix. Worked like a charm. I plan to set up WEP and reinstall the hotfix. Good luck!
