[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

Good for you Mark! It does seem that your problem is different from the rest of ours. It could be the other servers or a load on your Exchange server.

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

MarkAskew, Make sure you don't have a message size limit imposed. Text is generally tiny, but Word and Excel docs can get big. Also, consider installing a mail gateway/relay in a DMZ. It seems to have helped others here, including myself.

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

msdIT, Basically, you need to set up a mail relay (not an open relay, but one that will deliver mail only to a specific address; your Exchange server) in a DMZ so that it can be reached from the Internet. Then you must call your DNS hosting company (probably your ISP) and have them point the...

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

Congrats GP8! I am in Germany, meeting with my IT Director this week. Yesterday we had the idea to redirect all mail destined for our .de domain to the German email gateway (relay) instead of sending it directly to the Exchange server. So far, I have had no problems or failures. But it has...

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

I went another round with M$ yesterday. We are now at the point where it seems that the mail servers are making the connection, but then dropping it. I have this is my SMTP log: 4/17/04 5:24:36 PM : <<< IO: |354 Send binary data | 4/17/04 5:24:36 PM : <<< 354 Send binary data 4/17/04 5:24:36...

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

No, the updates did not work. Had a failure over the weekend. And yes, M$ is definitely shooting in the dark. I can't say I blame them. This problem makes little sense to me, and I've been thinking about it since last June! That's why I said I felt for the tech I spoke with. I could almost...

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

Hmm, it looks like the second link got messed up. The second link is: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=30e04382-c42a-4f27-adc0-27dd3874d8d9&displaylang=en

Ok, I am off with M$. I have updated the versions of the IMC and MTA executables. The donload links are: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9DAAAF9C-611B-4E1F-95C3-9FC99A0511A3&displaylang=en and...

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

tcswan, Yes, I agree. I have often thought that this could be a problem on the receiving end. I haven't taken many steps to investigate this at this point. What is really maddening to me is that all of my problems are internal! My domain does not have any dashes or underscores. I am...

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

Heh, and I just re-read one of my previous posts. What I meant to ask is does anyone know where the SMTP protocol log is located? Sheesh, I gotta read before I click!

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

msdIT, When I did my rebuild a few weeks ago I installed a fresh copy of NT4 SP6a and Exchange 5.5 on a completely different set of hardware. As I said, the only thing the two installs have in common is the DB's. It has not resolved the issue. What I was referring to is the settings in the...

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

Damn! This thread has really picked up! Rock on folks. I covered the log and route deletions with my rebuild a couple of weeks back, and I still get failures. But not as many as before the rebuild. (shrug) I agree with Notused. I think we are on the right track there. I have held off...

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

I am running Backup Exec 8.5 and Trendmicro Scanmail AV software. While it is true that Backup Exec runs on a different server, there is an agent installed on the Exchange server. This seems to be a common thread. Anyone else run Backup Exec? I plan to call M$ this week. I'll post my...

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

Ok y'all, I rebuilt my mail server last weekend. New hardware and a fresh install of the OS and Exchange. Just the databases (pub, priv and DS) were copied from the old server. And it only took 11 hours! :-( And guess what? I have two PubIS messages that failed today. So don't rebuild, it...

[Host Unreachable] Exchange 5.5 Internet mail service

I have been having a similar issue for about six months now. I use a mail gateway for all mail except that going to our other site, which is in Munich, Germany. The connection between sites is a static FW to FW VPN. These emails are routed directly to the other site's exchange server...

    Exchange 5.5 Host Unreachable

Gp8, does this happen with more than one domain? The problem I'm seeing only happens when I am sending to our other site; never with outbound email. Email is routed to the other exchange server by specifying the recipient host for that domain by it's IP address. So DNS does not seem to enter...

    Exchange 5.5 Host Unreachable

I have been having a similar issue. I am running Exchange 5.5 on a Win NT4, SP6a server. The setup is such that all mail is routed to our Gateway (in a DMZ) unless it is destined for our remote office. In that case it is forwarded to a particular IP address which is the mail server in the...
