I have discovered the issue, for which I could probably earn a Nobel prize. I started wondering why the DVD in question would play on my laptop and also play on my LG via HDMI from the laptop, but not on the HTPC connected via HDMI to the same TV. The difference is that the laptop played sound...
When using either Media Center or WMP 12, some DVDs will not play from the DVD drive. I get an error message which says there are digital copyright issues. However, that same DVD will play using the Roxio Cineplayer. Further, if I rip the DVD to the hard drive it will play fine. I have the...
Thanks for the help. I did go overboard on the build, but I will be ripping and burning the blu-rays at some point. Ands, I wanted this to last a long time. The Troubleshooter indicated there was no decoder. Since the DVD would not play, and I've had that problem before, I presumed that...
I just got finished building a new HTPC. It has a 2.4 ghz quad core AMD processor, 8 gigs of ram, 1 gig video card, blu-ray burner. I used Windows 7 64 bit as an operating system. Because I purchased the OEM version of Windows, it comes with no drivers or codecs. The drivers are no big deal...
I built a new computer in February with 2 gigs of RAM (fastest available) and the latest, at the time, and most powerful AMD video card. The throughput along with ability to display web pages with a lot of graphic content is incredibly faster. You select a web page and it displays it...
I agree with all of that except that it really runs fast enough now except for Internet, which is really slowed by the lack of RAM and the slow RAM. Also, I want to take the old motherboard and make a little computer to play music in my bedroom, a mini media center, but just for music.
I read the same thing. I guess what I'm trying to avoid is re-installing Office and all of the other software. Re-installing XP, or doing a repair installation wouldn't be that big of a deal.
I started witha copy of Windows 98 and upgraded it to XP. The computer was construcetd by me, so the license shouldn't be an issue.
Microsoft has a fairly good outline of how to install a new motherboard. It seems, however, that you end up re-installing XP no matter which way you go.
My motherboard and processor are about 3 years old, maybe a little more. The computer still runs great, but is a little slow due to the fact the the RAM is old, PC100, and can't be upgraded. Also, I have FIOS at 20 megabits which I am not taking full advantage of.
My question is this. Can I...
I ended up taking the Avermedia card out and putting in a ATI wonder 650. Media Center now detects the analog signal but not the digital. There is apparently a fix for this in Vista, but not MCE 2005. It still will not detect the multiple tuners in one card. However, Beyond TV seems to do a...
I just built a new media center computer. Everything works fine except that Media Center does not recognize a TV signal in the tuner card. The card is an Avermedia PCIE Combo. The basic software that is published by Avermedia detects the analog and digital signals just fine. The drivers are...
This problem started on 4/15/2006. When I type in an address on the address bar, for example, www.google.com, IE doesn't navigate anywhere. It only works if I type in the full address with the "http" etc. This only affects one computer of the three in my home. I was thinking that I could...
I have installed McAfee, no viruses. I have checked for addware and spyware and there was nothing. I have rebooted the Winsock and TCP/IP and no help. Since the computer is still new and there is nothing yet on the hard drive, wouldn't it be easier to reinstall Windows and start from scratch...
You have the patience of Job. We'll do the searches for malware and see what happens. By the way, we did rebuild the Winsock per the instructions from Microsoft, and it did seem to work for a few minutes. The problem seems to happen when you try navigate back to the home page after you have...
Thanks for the reply. I have read the post regarding malware once before. I wasn't sure if this would be applicable to us since we did not access any websites other than Microsoft to do the upgrades prior to the issue presenting itself. It almost seems as if the upgrade to SP2 has caused the...
We built a new computer and installed XP home edition. We then connected the computer to the DSL connection and downloaded all of the upgrades to XP so that it is now SP2. After finishing the SP2 install and restarting, the computer has had severe problems with IE.
The usual scenario is...
SP1 for Windows XP has added a feature that allows the user to enable plug-ins. It appears that this is where one would enable non-microsoft Java. However, when one clicks the radio button on the non-microsoft java, nothing happens. So, it would appear that there may be a glitch in SP1 that...
