can u fdisk and partiton via 98 boot disk and then load xp?
can u and a new or old hd with 98 on it to an xp system?
what issues do u anticipate?

was offline for long while.
if i use a boot disk it boots,but doesnt find the
disks.
its a generic machine.
if i boot without a floppy it finds a pri dos part,but no cd player-cant reinstall??

ican still boot up, after invalid sys disk msg,i hit enter and it is normal. fdisk show a tiny dos part.
anyway to fix? it wont reinstall...'

its a western digital drive. ive not used partition magic or any such program.
i removed the 30g, put in a 10 gig, also wd, messed with trying to load win2000 server, it wldnt load.
took off the 10g, put back the 30g and voila, it was messed up per first post.
the bios recognized both drives...

it is confusing. i have no idea why it decided to create a tiny dos and make the big drive nondos except for the last post.

somehow on my 30 gig drive with 98 se, a tiny dos partition was written and the 29 gig used partition became to fdisk, a non dos partition.
interestingly, i can still boot to 98. it stops and says no PT, which i presume is no partition, i hit enter and it boots like normal.
i dont understand...
usually its a modem. do u have a modem installed in device
manager?
what brought about this conflict?
find belarc advisor on the web and follow instructions and
it will tell you what you have and therefor youll know what drivers to seek.

i reloaded 98 over itself,all is fine except for this icon which wont delete and ive forgotten what i did to get rid of it before...

u may be able to fool it but.
long term u need a win98 floppy boot disk
find a machine that will boot to 98 desktop and
go to control panel, add/remove programs,boot disk
there is one button there
put a formatted blank floppy in the a drive and hit that button,when it finishes restart the...
u can try reloading op sys over itself if u think its a op sys prob before format ad reload. or use sfc,type sfc at the run line.
u also dont mention trying from the c prompt,]

and picking a date when it was working
these are to avoid a format/reload if possible

i dont recall the codes,but if its a liteon cd,the lights
will tell u if its a hardware problem.
u dont mention reloading the drivers btw, always a good start.
and u can move it on the ide cable or from one controller to the other.
