Thanks, friend.
I will try these ideas this evening.
If I'm not mistaken, I only tried "fixmbr"
I'll post again after trying your advice.
Thanks again.
I think it's a shame that entire families can be torn apart by something as simple as wild dogs...![surprise]
Yeah, I hear ya about the compaqs...
This one is a deskpro, prolly built in 1999, or 2000.
Should not be a problem.
This is driving me crazy.
It feels like I'm missing something stupid.
This should be quite easy, I would've thought.
But Noooooooo....
I think it's a shame that entire families...
Yes...
Built as C:
Old mans system picks up the HDD properly (Pri Master)
I tried the recovery console trick here, with the second hdd, and still get the ntldr missing when I try to put it in the compaq.

I'm about ready to drop kick a PC here... Bear with me.
I build a sweet XP Pro load... all the updates, all the good software, utilities, etc... on a Dell GX270.
Once it's all complete, running sweetly, perfectly de-fragged, etc..., I remove all reasonable h'ware from the device mangler, shut...
They are TrueType fonts...
They will be pushed out to existing workstations...
(If there's a way)

You have to record an image of a PARTITION, not a drive...
With a DRIVE image you get all of the partitions, like it or not...
If possible, re-create your image, but select "partition", rather than "drive".

You won't see anyhing happen when running fdisk /mbr...
Dropping quickly back to a dos prompt is absolutely normal.
Have you tried a HDD that has no partitions on it yet?
If so, does the XP CD see it?
Are you connecting the drive(s) to a RAID controller?
Even if you're not using a RAID setup...
Hello again peeps!
I had such good results with this site, and bcastner in particular, yesterday, that I thought I'd run some more stuff by you all.
I have the need to deploy 300+ fonts to well over 100 workstations <[surprise]>, all XP PRO...
I have been toying with the idea of pushing them...
Have you tried "fdisk /mbr"?????
I think it's a shame that entire families can be torn apart by something as simple as wild dogs...![surprise]
You might also try booting to a DOS floppy, and running "fdisk /mbr"...
Won't hurt anything, and I've seen it recover systems with similar issues...
Just my two pennies...
I think it's a shame that entire families can be torn apart by something as simple as wild dogs...!
Thanks bcastner!!!
YOU
ARE
THE
MAN
!!!
I'll try playing the patience game, and wait them out.
Hopefully it won't be all that long.

So...
Simply right click on the "My Computer" (Or "My PC" if that's the case) icon, and select "Create Shortcut".
This will create a shortcut on the desktop, and then you can edit those properties to include "Run Maximized"...
This workaround will work...
Okay...
I've got regini.exe working to change the d-word value of
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Explorer\Advanced\nonetcrawling to "1"...
Works like a champ, over the network...
Now, if there are any regheads reading this, how about
a reg edit to remove...
You guys, all of you, as well as this site, just ROCK!!
Thanks!!
I think it's a shame that entire families can be torn apart by something as simple as wild dogs...!
I KNEW that I'd seen that somewhere!!!
I appreciate your quick response, and insight.
What is the registry edit that you are referring to?
I'm not sure that I understand what it defeats by reading your note...
I can't readily test, right now, but I presume that the
un-checking of the setting...
I hate it when Windows XP automatically picks up shared printers that it detects on my local network. It installs them as "Auto blah blah blah on blah blah blah". I have searched and searched for a way to disable this automatic activity, with no luck. I could swear that I have...
